Today, Year 4 have had the amazing opportunity to take part in a workshop led by the Garsington Opera Company. Four members of the opera company joined us on the junior site including an opera singer, a composer and a stage director. The children were introduced to The Barber of Seville by an Italian composer, Rossini. As well as fun singing warm-ups, the children were taught snippets of songs from the opera then followed stage directions to add the drama. We listened to the beautiful voice of Paul, singing the part of Figaro and picked up some italian vocabulary along the way. After lunch, we jointly composed lyrics which were then put to music by the workshop’s composer and we finished with a performance to the Year 3 children in which we show-cased all of the day’s learning. One of the year 4 children summed up the whole experience. “It was the best day ever!”
